Elite sounds a tad tapperty.
« on: 20 April 2007, 14:06:25 »

Ive every intention to start using my much loved but sadly neglected Elite tomorrow and after starting it last night it sounded quite tapperty although after 5/10 mins it quitened down alot but was still tapperty but more in the backl ground if that makes sense.....Cant remeber if the car has had an oil change in the year ive owned it so intend doing that tomorrow with filter then again in a week or two"s time.

Questions are...will run of the mill cheap oil do temparily (thought id use it like an engine flush) and would somewhere like part co do the filter or is that just Vauxhall dealer....also is there anything i can add to the oil to help with the tappets, assume they need either freeing up or cleaning  :-/

So in essence i need an oil change very badly and id like to quiten down the tappets if possible.... :)

The recommended option is VX semi synthetic and 3k changes.  The cost of VX semisynth is quite reasonable, especially if you can get some on the discounted trade club scheme.  Theres probably someone close who can help you out.

Frequent 3k changes should do the same flushing thing without going down the flushing additive route as the Forte type stuff can dislodge carbon bits and cause them to block oilways.

If no access to VX semi, then any proprietry semisynth will do but it will cost more...

Thanks for the speedy reply Hotel....looks like i"ll have to bite the bullet and go see vauxhall, will get TC via Autobarnstormers soon but for now its full price for me.

Wasnt going to add an engine flush as such just thinking about doing 2/3 quick oil changes to see if that helped things....then stick in genuine vaux oil for the last change.

Think id better sit down before phoning vauxhall..... ;D

4 x gallons is less than £30 on TC.  Oil filters are only a couple of pounds.....

Its one of the few things that are actually cheaper and better from the dealer rather than Halfords or a motor factors...

Would also suggest doing the air filter as well as the fuel filter.  Give the car a mini service and you will soon spot the difference....

Ok i"ll think i"ll leave the oil till the trade card is sorted...£25.62 for a 5ltr can and £5.56 for a 1ltr and £5 ish depending on filter type  sounds a tad more than im willing to pay at the moment.lol

Oil,air and possible leads and plugs will be done when card arrives....then a nice shiny MOT and will be for sale. :)

Thanks for your advice Hotel...much appreciated :y
