Breathalised
« on: 05 June 2010, 17:47:51 »

Got pulled in today by traffic carrying out a drink drive campaign in June, he asked if i would object to taking the test, no probs but the machine i had to blow in was not the usual one, it was a long tube and all i had to do was place my lips approx 3 inches from the opening and blow onto it, took milliseconds for the reading. Never seen one of these type before, maybe some of you PCs on here could enlighten? is that the norm now?

In my opinion there should be a campaign EVERY day.
10 year ban and 5k fine. and a year in Jail to help you sober up.
If you lose you job over it WELL DONE.
Just my own opinion.

Hmmm. You can only be required to provide a breath test (in UK/Wales) if you've committed a moving traffic offence, been in a collision, or of the ossifer suspects you've been drinking.

I guess there's no harm in "asking if you'd mind" taking a breath test... but at bare minimum, it should have been made very clear to you that there was no obligation (unless any of the three criteria above applied).

On the subject of the new machine - no idea. The breath box I last used was like something out of the Flintstones :D

I must admit......as a "yoof"....in the seventies...I would drink Drive/ride on a regular basis......(as many of us did back then).....and without.. tax ...insurance and MOT......However ....I'm now a very mature and sensible middle aged man who drives a Vauxhall Omega..... ::) ::) ;)

The traffic cop did ask if i minded, i did not as i had nothing to hide, the traffic cops were at the same spot all day yesterday pulling in vehicles. he was not on his own, there must have been 5 or 6 traffic cars. None of the above criteria applied to me.

But you'd have spent a long time in the lay-by while something was found to 'do' you for had you minded

thats the trouble with these sweeping changes they come out with as andy b has highlighted.

i wonder where the research come from that suggests that it those (law abiding) types close to the limit  cause the accidents rather than those who totally flout the law and dont care less.

the gene hunt types as mentioned above still exist in 2010. :-?

I think most of mainland Europe are already on a limit of 50, so trying to get us the same. I'll generally have a couple of pints if out & driving, it all depends on the person, what they have or not eaten, what pint they drunk. Too many variables to determine what you can safely drink. I can't really argue with the 50, but a total ban on any alchohol when driving would be rediculous.
