In my opinion there should be a campaign EVERY day.
10 year ban and 5k fine. and a year in Jail to help you sober up.
If you lose you job over it WELL DONE.
Just my own opinion.

I must admit......as a "yoof"....in the seventies...I would drink Drive/ride on a regular basis......(as many of us did back then).....and without.. tax ...insurance and MOT......However ....I'm now a very mature and sensible middle aged man who drives a Vauxhall Omega..... ::) ::) ;)
weve all done that,,a select few may not

I agree with it, it should be NO DRINK at all when behind the wheel, never mind limits. BAN it totally, thats my opinion, others will differ.

That's the sherry trifle off the Christmas menu then if you're driving!

thats the trouble with these sweeping changes they come out with as andy b has highlighted.

i wonder where the research come from that suggests that it those (law abiding) types close to the limit  cause the accidents rather than those who totally flout the law and dont care less.

the gene hunt types as mentioned above still exist in 2010. :-?

I think most of mainland Europe are already on a limit of 50, so trying to get us the same. I'll generally have a couple of pints if out & driving, it all depends on the person, what they have or not eaten, what pint they drunk. Too many variables to determine what you can safely drink. I can't really argue with the 50, but a total ban on any alchohol when driving would be rediculous.
A total BAN, I can support that. If you wanna have a drink DO NOT DRIVE PERIOD. SIMPLES.

Hmmm. You can only be required to provide a breath test (in UK/Wales) if you've committed a moving traffic offence, been in a collision, or of the ossifer suspects you've been drinking.

I guess there's no harm in "asking if you'd mind" taking a breath test... but at bare minimum, it should have been made very clear to you that there was no obligation (unless any of the three criteria above applied).

On the subject of the new machine - no idea. The breath box I last used was like something out of the Flintstones :D
I thought Wales was in the UK? ::)...........putting my pedantic coat on. :D

They wanted to be independent and i think a mao of england was actually printed and they left wales off, unless it was an april fools  :-/

You mean FULL STOP ....USA use periods!
Read the previous posts. A total ban means that you can't have various foodstuffs that have been cooked in some kind of alcohol, blah blah in a red wine sauce, sherry triffle ..... etc etc. you need to be able to live with laws.

I can make a SHERRY Trifle, or even chicken in Red Wine sauce, and you could eat as much as you wanted, till it made you ill, and you would NOT be over the legal drink drive limit, in fact I have done it many times, all you need to do is use a simple thing called ESSENCE in your cooking.
You would not serve anyone food that contained NUTS knowing that person or persons suffered a Nut Allergy. If you have guests coming to dinner and they are driving home use ESSENCE. I still say TOTAL BAN, and I have more reasons than most to support my theory, and no matter what you all throw at me I will defend it with my dieing breath, and try as hard as you will, you will NOT convince me any different.

If you had one pint of shandy on a Monday evening at say 10 o,clock you would probably still have a detectable amount in your bloodstream on the way to work the next day, even though it was having no effect. I can sympathise with the zero tolerance attitude but I think the reason it hasnt been introduced is that the powers that be, including the police know that its unworkable.
I think we realistically need to have a limit. Its the people who ignore the limit and take a chance driving while p1ssed who are the problem imo.I could be tempted to bring back hanging for them. ;)

Spot on. No other country has an unworkable zero
IIRC there'a an EU country that has 5ml/100mg to allow for exactly your example. Those who drive pi$$ed now, will drive pi$$ed if the max is 50, 40, 30, or zero.

I like a drink, had a few today but drive for a living so never drink on a "school night"
Regarding the alcohol in food, if you add wine to a sauce for example the reducing process in the cooking (usually adding butter near the end) cooks out the alcohol but leaves the flavour hence no alcoholic intake.

Sorry to be a clever dickie!!! ;D

Funny though, that while drink driving is most definitely on the decrease (certainly since when I was a lad!), mobile phone use when driving is widespread and judged to be arguably as dangerous as driving over the limit.  >:(

Methinks there should be a vigorous campaign against that!
