I have an uncanny habit of......
« on: 11 June 2010, 15:18:14 »

...arriving at the scene of a road traffic incident just after it happens.  It appears becoming a medic was a good choice! lol

This one happened yards from my house at a junction with a B road which has a lot of heavy traffic on it.  By the junction is a canal lock and there is a small hump bridge going across the canal.  Young lad in a mitsubishi van was coming down the hill too fast, lost control flip the van on it's side and crashed into a car waiting at the junction.  Girl in the car had back pains so checked her over for spinal damage or bleeding, she seemed ok apart from the pain.  She is a diabetic so I was concerned about periferal shutdown.  Fire brigade then took over.  They had to take the roof off of her recently purchased M reg peugeot, poor thing was upset at that.

In the van, all the occupants had gotten out themselves and were unharmed but one of them was 7 months pregnant, father-to-be was driving!  She wasn't hurt and there were no signs of trauma to the unborn baby that I could tell (but you never know with these things)  She was geting more and more worked up with worry about her baby.

The driver was on edge, at first I thought it was becasue of his partner but it later transpired that he had no license and no insurance, stick the dangerous driving on that and he will get the book thrown at him.

I of course was on my way back home from work, thus the uniform, the chief fireman was very grateful to have me there while the ambulance got there esp once I told him I was MIMMs trained.

Obviously the peugeot is now roofless and the mitsubishi will be impounded and destroyed.  I wonder if I write to the police they would consider giving it to the girl who has just lost hers as she will have no compensation now  :(

The most worrying part of this is that I cycle past there 4 times a day now as I cycle to work as part of my training.  Today I chose to take the miggy...........

Good on yer, matey!!

Lost count of the amount of times mr. St John training has helped at the scene of something unfortunate!

Am the company "First Aider" and take great pride in it.

No real bloody incidents yet, but loads of broken arms, wrists, falls from ladders, etc.

Well Done again.

She should be able to get something. Isn't there a fund that all British motor insurance comapnies pay into the they can claim from if the driver causing the accident is uninsured?

Yes I have heard that, although thank goodness never had to test it out!! ;) ;)

Well done Gaffers, and it just shows how good it is to have professional medical training, and especially when in the military :y :y :y :y

I thought you were going to say the vehicle(s) ended up in the canal.

A car left the road near us alongside the canal bridge, ended up upside down in the canal.
Mother and baby in the car, thankfully both got out ok thanks to a passing motorist diving in there to release the baby from the baby seat. It was pitch black (late evening) she was lucky someone was passing at the time.

Well done that man.

They've since altered the road layout approaching the very tight bend where the incident occured, not before time.

And well done Gaffers.

Mick ;)
