opening an ipod
« on: 09 June 2010, 20:49:29 »

I am trying to replace the battery in a 3rd gen ipod just for the hell of it.

Have the battery in a nice pack with the 2 plastic tools to loosen of the casing- can i do it - not on your life... Anyone tried this job?

he's probably had it on and off a few times so its a bit looser - as long as you use something thin and plastic - it'll break before the ipod does :y

His favourite one is called Sammy.  ::)

hmmm - I suspect from your post  that Sammy is a big hammer.

My method for opening this one was not the most elegant but I have ideas know for more appropriate tools.

Anyway - it works fine and can leave it in car rather than my newer 120gb

I bought one from a car boot, was told he had lost the charger, spemt £57 on a nice decktop charger hook up unit and found the ipod was fooked, so I got chucked in the bit box, not seen it for a few years, might just be a simple fault.

which desk top charger - surely £57 is a misprint?

They are about £15 today I think

Worth a mention...

If you get the sad pod and a clicking noise with a Hard Drive IPod, Give it a firm smack on the side and very often it will sort them out...  My old 20Gb gen 4 jobby used to do it....  Only do it if it is out of warantee mind...

I wouldn't try that with a 5th gen or classic, the HDD are more delicate  :y
