Most dim-witted moment

Reading through the posts tonight something made me recall a hugely embarrassing moment when repairing my Miggy. :-[

It was couple of years back and I spent over a week trying to trace a non-start fault on the car (turned out to be a faulty immobiliser, but that's another story). The thing is, as the days under the bonnet passed slowly by, my mind regressed until I had the IQ of an amoeba.

I recall posting on here that "now the bl***y starter motor won't turn over". Marks DTM coolly enquired whether the auto shift was in P or N? Doh! Can you imagine how I felt to find it was in D?

It made me wonder whether anyone else on here is prepared to own up to a REALLY dim-witted moment..... ;)

I already posted mine... it was when I started the engine on a Mk I Astra to drive it off the ramp following and oil&filter drain, before filling it up with fresh oil.... surprisingly both car and driver are well.

Er......yes, there a clue running along the bottom of this post, spent all morning not long ago stripping out the left hand side of the dash to get to my heater fan resistor when it stopped working, was even better as i had an audience made up of Bo Bo and Theolodian, guess what it was :-[ ::)

Pushing my MK2 Cortina up and down the road for more than 30 mins, Not only me but 4 friends as well.

Ooops, forgot to flick the secret switch under the dashboard that would allow power to the coil....6 pints it cost and months of mickey taking. Was announced on the pub tannoy..Funny they never asked for a lift again..

Years ago I had a 1.4 astra merit and the house I lived in had a sloping drive. I arrived home to find the drive lighly dusted with snow so I gingerly parked the car, applied the handbrake and then jiggled up and down in the driver seat to see if the car would stay put. No movement so I got out, walked to the front door and put my key in then BANG the car had slid down the drive and into the front of the house. The house was a town house and the bang had brought the neighbours from both sides out to see what had happened just as I was climbing over the bonnet. Needless to say the heat from my very red and embarrassed face had started to melt the snow ;D.Luckily we had a porch or my legs would have been in plaster :-[

Just wonderin if the red face was because of embarrassment or the Vat of ale you had consumed??? ;D

Done that but the other way around.  :-[ 24v Senators/Carltons can often suffer from the sh1te wiring to the starter, so when the car's engines are warm/hot they won't start. You either sort it out with an additional relay or if your problems aren't too bad you can always bridge the starter motor terminals. Obviously you make sure it's not in D first though!  ::) It's difficult to reach into the car to knock it out of gear while your foot is chocking the front wheel!!  ;D
