Am I still covered?
« on: 14 June 2010, 12:25:34 »

Just had the following reply for a seller on the Gay. Asked the question if she would accept £165 including postage.
Reply is.....

.....sorry I didn't get that reply but yes £165 is inclusive of postage If you would like to send me your paypal email address then I can get an invoice sent out to you for this item and you will still be covered under the paypal warranty because I don't want to go through ebay as they will take approx £30 off the fee if I change the buy it now also as soon as payment is received the item will be sent out immediately next day special delivery and will supply the tracking number when I have posted it.

Seems she wants me to pay via Paypal, I am ok with that, but she wants to avoid eBay.
Any ideas folks?
Cheers
Diane

I'd have thought you're still covered on Paypoo protection?

Does that not fall within eBay rules about trading off listing D?

If the listing is active I would bid at the last minute or ask the seller to put a 'buy it now' option on.

It seems to me that the buyer is trying to avoid paying the fees and that you wouldn't necessarily be covered by eBay if things go wrong – furthermore, to try and recoup money from PayPal under those circumstances might well be difficult.

Just what I was thinking Z, I thought dealing outside eBay was against their rules? I may be incorrect here though.
I think for safety's sake and my £165 I will give this one a miss.
Thanks

Yes, was talking to a trader who offered me discount, she was openen and honest and said that as ebay charge 15% she could offer me 10% off any item, and as I am now a good customer I pay only one carriage fee, every other item is sent FOC

With the 15% charge ebay make she ends up a bit better off and I save 10% so both happy.

So if the seller you are dealing with is saving 15% thats whythey have accepted you offer.

Just to add, I now deal directly off her oen website, but still get extra discount. :y

obviously your case is now resolved, but cover in that situation is down to paypal only, if you chose to purchase outside of ebay

there's nothing stopping a seller ending an item on ebay before it sells and completing the transaction elsewhere, its just that ebay can refuse any responsibility, it just depends on how trustworthy a buyer and seller can be

i regularly list alloy wheels on ebay and so many people find it easier to collect them and pay cash, i end them after they pay

There is a place in Blackpool that refurbs alloy wheels, you buy a set off them and they collect yours after a few days. £240, dunno if that is a good deal or not.
That is near wigan is it not?

Problem is eBay and Paypal are oe ad the same these days -- so if one hand gets a whiff that the seller was trying to avoid the other's fees they will drop you like a hot potato and offer no assistance whatsoever.

Paypal and eBay are interested in one thing, and one thing only ...... the money going into their bank account  :(

a place in widnes can refurb for £35 a wheel and apparently do a good job, not too keen on the blackpool "exchange" method
