Probably the worst match in the Cup Ive seen so far!, think thats pretty much it for England now, with USA playing well now, reckon were going to have to beat Solvinia somthing like 5+ to nil to get through. rekon it will end up with drawn points and then goals start to count,  what have we done... oh yea 1 goal so far.

Yes and according to them they won 1-1 against, so does that mean we have lost one match allready.  ::)   ;D ;D

Someone must he's worth it Opti :( this fact certainly boggles my mind - not from a sporting perspective as I'm uninterested in it - to the point where I'm unable to understand why such value is placed upon those who engage in this, and like,  activity.

It seems that we live in a nation where the price that's paid is well known but the value of the perceived benefit is far from understood.  It beats the shit out of me how such people are lauded :( :( :(

As you quite rightly say Opti – it’s hardly brain surgery.  In my view we, as a race, deserve everything that’s likely to befall us in the near future when so many falls before the altar of adulation to these people of such questionable worth.

This football thing is an alternative to doing 'O'-levels etc. at school. It's going to have to pay well if anyone's going to make that sacrifice!  ;)

like in any field, Zulu - you're only paid what someone thinks you're worth, if Manchester United had 100 players like Rooney then he wouldn't be paid anything like that amount  :y

and to be fair if someone offered me over a  £100,000 a week for 5 years I would be unlikely to say "no no - that's far too much", actually several high profile players have said the reverse  ;D

I can accept that BJ :y but when sporting activity is considered to be so important - to degree where such financial rewards to those who participate in it are considered justifiable and indeed necessary - does this not devalue the sport and relegate it to the murky world of business first and foremost?

....as opposed to what they are REALLY WORTH BJ....Personally.... I would pay the top players something close to the national average wage.....about £25,000....P.A......lets face it ...all they do is kick a ball about on a piece of muddy grass.... ;)

I've long believed that the American NFL model should be adopted here - fantastic sport, great spectacle, there's a wage limit thats the same for all teams, the worst teams get the first picks of the best new players each year - so no team ever gets a huge advantage plus all the millions from TV rights, merchandising, sponsorship deals etc gets put in a pot and divided evenly between the 32 teams (or franchises)  - this all ensures close competition and teams cant just outbid each other for the best players.......actually the NFL is very socialist when you come to think about it   :y
