Electric car fantasy
« on: 18 June 2010, 13:31:35 »

David Cameron recently confirmed the Government would go ahead with a £20million grant to help Nissan build electric cars in the North East.

As part of the drive to replace petrol and diesel-powered cars, a Government incentive scheme also offers those who buy electric vehicles a £5,000 rebate.

There are also plans to spend millions on building a network of charging points in London and other cities.

However, research by the Institution of Engineering and Technology suggests claims about the performance of electric vehicles are 'pure fantasy'.

I don't see what the problem is Nick :-/  we can get all the cheap energy to sustain this 21st century means of propulsion from Mr Huhne's super efficient wind turbines. :-* :-*

I give thanks every day that we have such far-seeing people looking after the furure energy needs of our nation 8-) :y :y

They also tell us that we will not be able to provide enough electricity as the power stations will be obsolete shortly and not enough time/money to build new ones to cope.So lets all get electric cars, that seems like the best choice....fuds.

What I want to know is if they're so keen on cutting emmissions why aren't the govern-bent not putting that money into grants for solar panels and household wind turbines. Surelythat would save a LOT more C02 than forcing us all out of our miggys. Battery powered cars are not the future - hydrogen fuel cells should be the way forward.

To quote Mr Evans ........

They're making us pay a fortune for electricity, ya know. They reckon we should save the planet, save electricity and all that sort of stuff. Oh, yeah, I'm loving this rubbish* they're coming out with! You got the Chinese bellowing out smoke from* coal-fired power stations, the Americans are driving about in 4x4 Humvees, Las Vegas is lit up like a giant Christmas tree, but they reckon if I switch off this little standby button on my TV...

*edited for the sake of the word filter -- if you know Mr Evans he used alternative language :y
