Looking for a Sat Nav, Still.
« on: 12 June 2010, 17:27:49 »

I am looking for a Sat Nav, as per title.
Can anyone tell what they now about the one on the link below? Is it worth getting one with the Traffic updates?
Is this overpriced? Can I hard wire this, i.e. wire it to cigarette lighter and hide cables away? Hate cables everywhere.
Thanks in Advance.

A mate has a Garmin in his Passat which also detects radar as well as serving as Sat Nav - will find out model and report back - I know he is very happy with it

It is the Garmin 205W - he tells me it advises of cameras etc but cannot see that on this entry level spec - he paid about £150 for it a year ago so there maybe a few variants

Why I like this is because it has Speed Camera alerts, it is 4.3 (I think) and Bluetooth Connectivity. Cannot seem to find a TomTom that does all that, unless OOF knows different.

Used one of those in Florida last year. Nice unit, easy to program, clear voice instructions, bluetooth clarity pretty good. Don`t think it`s hard-wireable, connection plug into unit similar to modern mobile phone plug. :y
Prefer to use one of these rather than the suction mount

If it plugs into Car Cigarette lighter, cannot the plug be snipped off and wire to the rear of connections for lighter? If that makes sense ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Thereby, hiding away wires. :y :y :y :y

Ahh, I see what you mean now. Thought you were thinking of hard wiring directly from the unit. Yes, can`t see a problem doing it your way

Peachy regarding hard wiring , you will find that the cig lighter is actually a step down power supply which means you will need to take the cig adapter apart and wire direct to it .  I have done this and it pretty simple to do .I have seen units that are designed to be hard wired have a look on the auction site   ;)
