Sell, fix & sell or break??
« on: 20 June 2010, 19:45:06 »

I have a bit of a dilema.  My '99 2.5 V6 CDX (120k)has started developing a number of faults and after 5 years I'm thinking its time for a change:

ABS ECU failed
significant corrosion increasing in usual places
Airbag light on

Add to this it needs the following:

Cambelt
at least 2 tyres
service (possibly brakes also)
MOT & tax due in July

And its it getting tatty inside - heated seat failure (burnt seat), seats becoming stained & worn etc.

So I'm trying to decide the most economical route to change it (both in terms of effort and pound notes)

1) Sell it as it is (someone else to break or fix)
2) Do the jobs (excluding bodywork) and sell it
3) Break it myself

Not sure I have the time to break it myself unless the effort was financially worth it so its perhaps a case of if I invest the cash, will I get it back when I sell it??

If it's stuck, force it.  If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway........

after trying a few places as a trade in with mine i found out quickly that omegas are worth nowt and some dealers dont even want them espesh that age and mine was 2001....weigh up the tax at £100 for 6  months and mot fee plus tyres and cambelt plus sorting all other faults and is it worth it,yes they are a nice motor but how much do you plough into them..look at how much your car would be worth if it was ok and then think shit is that it for all this, itsa bloody shame but theyre worth nowt

I had t make a similar decision recently, albeit with the Galant, was offered very litle in PX so sold it to my local independent for a little less, allowing me to buy without a px.
There does come a time when you have to ask when to stop paying out and replace, in this case though swmbo has not let me forget what I have done....... ::) ::) ::)

Not intertested in P/X so if I can recoup £500 on it I'll be happy - I suppose I just need to get advertising and see what happens?
