One of the authoritive DNS servers for omegaowners.com was on a server plugged into the same UPS, which also took out the network switch.

Laymans terms:

Should point out that a UPS (Universal Power Supply) Should run perfectly fine with no power for a limited time, guessing the batterys in it are nackered  ;D
You mean Uninterruptable Power Supply. Well, this one interrupted quite spectacularly ::)
