Fuel Costs - The Frightening Reality
« on: 24 June 2010, 19:50:16 »

My car just passed its MOT this week and I happened to notice that I've covered 17,0000 miles since the same time last year.
I got to thinking about the fuel used and worked out some horrific figures.
I've rounded them up but they still serve to scare  me witless.
I took an average of 26mpg - I get less about town but more on a run so thats ;
17,000 miles at 26mpg
=650 gallons or near enough 3000 ltrs
at £1.20 - ltr = £3500
in fuel alone last year.!!!!!!
With VAT going up to 20%, that adds nearly another 3p to the cost of a ltr.
We already pay excise duty on fuel PLUS the VAT on the fuel (AND THE EXCISE DUTY).Taxed twice!!
Prompted me to think how much does the goverment actually get for our litre of petrol?????
Perhaps I need to practice a more ecconomical style of driveing :D

Sounds like a good candidate for LPG...

i would have to average mine over 18.5 mpg as thats what it usually reads, sometimes less but never more than 22.5. not that i care otherwise i would of bought a micra or a little fiat. but i do care about the price of petrol though keep going up

Thanks for that Lizzie.

I usually stick £30 or £40 in at a time with the occassional tank when we're off on a trip and never give a thought to it totaling up.

Opened my eyes but, as RichieRich quite rightly said, I didn't buy it for its fuel ecconomy. 8-)

the way i see it fuel will never come down again to a reasonable price now so i can either put up with it and sell the mig or keep on moaning and sell it and get a 1000cc car that does triple mine does. i made my choice by buying my second v6. :)

I'm quite happy with that 2W :y  it's a moral obligation that we, who selfishly choose to exploit this wicked method of personal transportation, must assume the position and wait for all that our government decides to give us.

It is in the interests of the nation after all. :y :y

Lubrication of choice is perfectly acceptable :-* :-*.
