Looking at England games in years past it was always on display, but  maybe the St Georges Cross has taken over because it seperates us from the English haters who share the flag?

If you mean the footie then of course it should be St george for England shouldnt it ?
Is union jack not just for the whole of the UK ?  :y

Isn't it only a 'Union Jack' when on a Royal Navy ship (or an RN building, as they're classed as ships. I know, me neither!), otherwise it's the Union Flag?

Correct, whilst "flying" at sea, otherwise the correct term is "Union Flag". Whilst flying at sea it it was deemed "colours at sea" and flown from the jack staff on the ship`s bow, hence Union Jack

On any vessel at sea flying our flag it is known as the Union Jack,not just RN vessels.  The flags flown off the stern with the union jack in one corner are known as ensigns red background are the normal ones but those with the rights can fly a Royal one with a blue background and the relevant decals.  For example as a member of the Army Sailing association I have the right to fly this:



If you want some fun when sailing at sea 'dip' your ensign to any british flagged vessel and watch them panick and scurry to dip theirs in return as is the strict custom at sea ;D ;D ;D ;D

I think that's a fair enough assessment S :y although as Pedro and Rob both said, the flag should be referred to as the Union Flag when unconnected with Naval matters. :y

Sorry folks, i should've made my question a tad clearer. Not being the worlds biggest footie fan i've only noticed the George cross being used for the last two or three world cups.
    Last dealings i had with the Union Jack was in the Sea Scouts where we were taught how to fold it & which way up it should be.

   You'll understand that was some time ago as i'm 24 now!!!!! :D :D ::) :-?
