Locomotive piston failure
« on: 28 June 2010, 12:44:33 »

....further to Mark`s recent post about the piston/cylinder of a diesel-locomotive embedding itself in an American house.

It was clearly not a one-off event. :-/

No Hoofing it.  That was a complete motion wrecking 'incident' when the regulator was 'locked' out fully open and no one could close it before severe damage was done.

This was Standard 5 73096 on the Watercress Line back in March 2009!! :'( :'( ;) ;)  In this instance it was no doubt due to priming with excessive water entering the cylinder with the steam; bang!  £200,000 worth of damage :'( :'( :'(

.. and I think they then set fire to the traction motors on 33208 , which was sent to recover it. "One of those days".  ;D
