Two
planes landed in England yesterday..One brought back a group of overpaid,
underachieving footballers. The other brought back 7 coffins, each with
the Union Jack draped over them.Footballers play for our country,
soldiers FIGHT for our country.Footballers give ninety minutes, soldiers
... give their lives..........I know who I respect ......more. R.I.P. Our
Boys.

hands up who thought soldiering was safe? i doubt you join the forces hoping to spend your entire career on training exercises :o

not sure of the point..........if you've got a skill that people pay millions for, good luck to you i say  :y

funnily enough no one sees fit to criticise the vast fortunes earned by land owners who's only "skill" is to be born to the right family............footballers dont set the wages, agents and clubs do - if clubs don't want to pay as much they can tell the agents to foxtrot oscar  ;)

It may have something to do with the rather excessive debate about the failure of this team to achieve victory in a sporting event as opposed to the wisdom of trying to fight an un-winnable war and witnessing the lack of similar debate regarding the morality of it and the trauma to those poor souls suffering because of it.

Aside from the post-mortem over this event, I find it disturbing that so much attention is paid to these sports people and the unbelievable amount of money they earn for what is, in my view, performing an act that ranks very low on the scale of things that can be considered as being of national importance.

I think the point made is pretty obvious-that the pay scales of the two are totally out of synch with the jobs they do. Prem footnballers are VASTLY overpaid. Yes, they need a relatively good salary because come their 30s their playing days and earning potential is suddenly negligible in comparison. And this is all part and parcel of the debts and problems of pro football in this country. On the otherhand, of course you should expect and accept the very real dangers and consequences of choosing to join the armed services. You should expect to see combat and that comes with the possibility of both mental and physical trauma. Noone forced you to join but it seems obvious to me that our troops ARE underpaid and also have to work without the proper equipment and under the hampering of some truly strange "rules of engagement" (imagine how youd feel if you were under fire but as soon as you want to retaliate they suddenly lay down their weapons and walk away in full view and you cant touch them-including throwing a wellie ).

When their playing days are over .....they should  get an ordinary job......just like everyone else in the REAL WORLD. But in reality the top players never need to work again ......They can retire at 35....and to a far higher standard than you and I could achieve at 65 or even 70..... An overpaid  bunch of effeminate nancy boys in my opinion. :-/
