Winterton show. Lincolnshire.
« on: 04 July 2010, 20:12:54 »

This used to be the Brocklsby Steam rally which was held on the same site as the the Brocklsby Country fair 2 or 3 weeks apart. Both were top shows. After some unfortunate fall outs with the organizers last years Steam Rally relocated to the Winterton showground, north of SLady bitshorpe & was a huge success. I showed the Cortina, stayed in the van free of charge with my mates on security & ambulance/first aid & really enjoyed it like a good OOFmeet. Did'nt get time to book in this year so i popped along for an afternoon visit. Glad i did'nt stay over, it was a total let down. A raging funfair banging out the usual related pap music, a handful of classic cars & tractors, no steam engines, no commercials but i could feed a baby goat or buy garden furniture. No proper rummaging stalls, i was there less than an hour & won't be going back.
Steam Rallys & Agricultural shows both havre thier place but never the twain should meet. >:( >:( :( :( :-? :-?

I've seen this happen before .......

The Abergavenny Steam Rally used to be excellent in the days when we used to enter my former bus there.
Loads of autojumble and car-boot type stalls to rummage through, along with plenty of sales stalls for Mrs Sethsmate to wander around too.
New organisers with new ideas soon put paid to much of this, though it's still excellent vehicle-wise.
 ;)

Our Welland Steam Rally is now less than three weeks away, and most vehicle entry classes have around 200 entries each - and have been full for some time now.
Stall-wise, I think that we've got the balance just about right too.
And no problems for us with land-owners etc - we bought our own fields some years back after experiencing similar problems.

You'll not be disappointed .......  :y

Oh, and our 'Old Tyme Funfair' doesn't bang out modern 'chav stuff' either. Contemporary music's in vogue here!
 :y
There's a fantastic atmosphere on the Friday and Saturday evening as the showmans engines do their stuff providing power for it, along with a superbly professional fireworks display after dark, and all in the shadow of the beautiful Malvern Hills!
 :D :D :D :D :D

Sounds great. I love a proper steam rally. You can't replicate the sounds & smells. I was at last years for 4 days as i pitched my van with friends on ambulance/security & could've stayed longer. This year no cars or trucks were shown in the arena, no road run with police escort...nothing.
A bit far for me to travel towing & 17mpg but best of luck with yours & looking forward to the piccies. Guy :y 8-)

Cheers for this Guy.

Was hoping to muster a few OOFers, though with little success.
The Sethsmates have purchased a 6m x 4m marquee - so that our legendary evening BBQs can be enjoyed to the full.
Just imagine the atmosphere, the wind-ups, the grub - and all washed-down with copious amounts of Newcastle Brown Ale!
 ;D ;D ;D ;D
Ah well, eh .........
:D

We'll be there for around nine days.
As a member, I've loads of signage and fencing to erect - the two youngest 'third generation Sethsmates' are now counting-down the days, and saving their pennies hard, (mine in reality!)
Some of the lorry boys give them rides in their cabs - the two little fellas have the time of their lives!
 ;D

There's also nearby Newent to look forward to shortly as well.
This must be the only holiday that we actually take on our own!
