Swearing on the forum.

I admit i got the bang hump a while ago when the issue was rife The majority had to bow down to the over sensitive minority. So despite my mithering at the time i no longer use the word "break" nor do i use **'s to "cover" a naughty word for a few months now proving the age old adage wrong that swearing represents a lack of vocabulary or intellect & have adjusted my posts accordingly & reluctantly. Swearing is on telly now & even if it's "beeped" we know what's really being said, so why is there still swearing on here ie "taking the piss"? & more.
   I don't care either way but can we make our minds up please? ::)

Yep... sadly.....total boll###s in my opinion... :)

Hmmmm, it's a moot point but IMHO a bit of 'swearing' helps get the mood of the message over? I don't mean really filthy 'gutter' language, there's no need for that at all, but earthy language is part & parcel of daily life and dare I say it, 'normal' vocabulary? I appreciate that there are people who don't swear & have never used 'bad' language, & there are some who may/will find it offensive, but where do you draw the line to suit everyone? :-?

Agreed on the 'lack of vocab' and also on not caring either way (as long as the poster suffers from the afore mentioned 'lack of vocab' and really needs to emphasise an emotion/statement etc.)

Agree with Guy too

There was such a big huhar on here the other week over the matter, yet there  have been many postings since with swearing in, and the greatest swearer in OOF history is back (yet again!!!) to another big fanfare.....

Bit of consistency maybe?

I haven't seen recent inconsistency, I must admit, but I've been busy for the last couple of weeks and haven't read a great proportion of what's been posted - so if there are specific instances of over-or-under moderation that you are not happy with please feel free to notify the admin team. We can't always keep up with 100% of what is posted so keeping the forum consistent is partially down to to originators of the content, not just those who moderate it!

IMHO there are probably 3 categories of words:

1) Those which we absolutely won't permit in any context.
2) Those which, depending on the context, may be seen to add colour, impact or humour in some contexts and unnecessary profanity in others. They may be inoffensive when used in general but highly offensive when directed at another member or a minority, for example.
3) Those which are OK in all contexts.

Most "colourful" words on the forum fit into category 2. This means that context is very important in most decisions we make when moderating, so the decision is not a black and white one and, whilst we strive to be consistent, what immediately rings alarm bells for one mod might be missed by another.

We all know "the shed" and, therefore, an example of what happens when standards aren't applied at all. I hope the majority of us prefer the status quo? ;)

i agree totally tbh, but...

if it makes life easier for Admin then i think we generally should follow the leed. We should be helping admin to help us a bit more....the tinkers.  ;D

lets face it it cant be any fun coming on for a bit of oofing to find a pm box full moaning about this that and the other, then putting rules in place to find the other half of oof moaning about those same rules.

leave it be imo.

I have been out and about all weekend and tonight is the first night in 3 that I have been on OOF, already its easy to find at least one other thread where there is more than one occurence of bad language from regular members

Its ok saying there shouldnt be swearing on here, but this is what I meant by consistency.....

I tend to use various amounts of *******s and then could mean anything you want them to.

Seen the following 4 letter F word tonight the F**d one
