My thought exactly.  If you look at Wimbledon slo-mos it's easy to get ugly pictures when people are exerting themselves.

Not too impressed with journalists as a breed!

Agreed. With fast shutter speeds, you can get pictures of people apparently sneering even though they're merely talking. The press used this technique with Mrs T when she was PM. They got a picture of her delivering a speech at a conference with her upper lip raised as if sneering and it was used against her regularly after that.

I feel sorry for the officer, to be honest.

The Press, however, has an agenda which doesn't include respect officers putting their lives on the line.
