Moat.....

Below is a link to the picture of the Taser used on Moat.
Don't think it has been approved by the Home Office yet, someone has some or even a lot of questions to answer in my opinion.

Looks Brutal to me. Surely shooting him with that will cause muscle spasm, and was it not raining?
There going to be fireworks me thinks.

Alison, i believe the actual taser is only the little yellow gun, and the rest is a shotgun mount for it. the X36 IS well known, and rain really doesn't make too much effect on its useage. The taser does indeed cause a muscule spasm, but unlikely to give a grip reaction, even though you may think it will, it tends to make you release more than grip, and gives a feeling of "no control over any limb or function" feeling, and you can drop to the ground quickly because your legs will not hold you up. Although this will be debated strongly by a lot of people who have no real knowledge on the subject, it is an excellant way of incapacitating a subject and stopping a situation happening. The effects of this are relatively short, and not permanently damaging, giving a feeling of severe pins and needles for about an hour, and a headache with sore limbs.

Go around with a shotgun and kill people I reckon a taser is a pretty pleasant weapon compared to a bullet

Well said that man

Moat seems to almost have gained folk hero status.
People need to remember he was a murdering nut job
Is it because he shot a copper? probably, why do so many of us hate the police? Ive heard so many people state how much they hate the police and yet first sign of bother they pick up the phone and call the boys in blue.

The man was a dick  and the country is safer him dead.

So if you were a Police officer, tasked with tracking and arresting a man who just shot and murdered someone. Who then later went on to say would kill more police, would you want some kind of weapon? Or would you rather have a water pistol?  :-/

Also, Home Office has nothing to do with this, absolutely nothing. Police forces can use any weapon they wish, as long as its deployed in correct manner for circumstances.

If they could justified it, they could have borrowed a Challenger II tank.....

Having seen more than enough death in my 39 years service I don't celebrate the violent demise of anyone - including Mr Moat.

In these cases however 'big boys rules' apply - so the result just has to be dealt with by those involved.  This thing that does concern me most is this growing tendency;

As it suggests to me that there is something radically wrong in our society.

This matter has a way to run as it not only raises the question of how this particular incident was handled but, more importantly, highlights the alarming lack of a cohesive policy in police districts across the nation to deal with such things effectively.

Firstly, sorry Alison. After what he'd done a tazer was equivilent to sending him to bed with no tea until he said sorry, he shot 3 people, police or civilian he did it & had to be stopped. What if he shot one of our nearest & dearest? On the radio today i heard someone say the police upset him so it's thier own fault??? I'm amazed the BBC gave this idiot airtime. He could hardly string two words together.
My soft side feels sorry for Moat as he was that messed up he believed he was justified in his actions but really he was hurting & NOT a hard man mentally.

The last person he shot was a merciful release for himself & others....hinself.

No need to apologise, I am glad to see it is all over, with no more innocents murdered. I was just stating the obvious that the do gooders' in society will play a war of words on this.
Just my opinion.

IMHO any non-lethal solution HAS to be the best thing, Lethality and mortal firearm use HAS to be the ABSOLUTE last resort.

However, like Zulu, I have seen first hand the result of mindless violence and killing, and totally support the Police in their useage of the Taser, rather than the 7.62 live round.

There will ALWAYS be cases where lethal force is the only remedy, but until that point...........

I'm sick of hearing sympathetic voices for Moat . >:(
As usual it's all about the perpetrator and little or nothing is heard about the victim(s).
Well have a read at this and tell me who really deserves pity and sympathy.............

Moat was given EVERY opporunity to end the stand off and face justice but he decided to kill himself and I for one have no qualms about his death or the way he met it.
