Hi,  might any of you know where I can buy an adapter that lets you refill a gas bottle (propane) from a garage lpg pump. (not allowed I know).
Iv,e seen them around,some home made,and some on ebay,but have failed to source one myself.

Firstly, as you say, it's not allowed and, IMO, very dangerous as the cylinders may over fill.

Secondly... Why? It's more expensive from the pump as Duty has been paid

Hi Lazydocker,Firstly what I,m looking for is the same kind of system as Gaslow,which costs about £120 just for the bottle. Everyone that use,s the adapter method seems quite happy to use it.
Secondly the cost of a refill for 6 kgs of propane is around £19.

The reason gaslow cylinders are quite expensive is that they have a proper filling port with a shutoff valve to prevent overfilling. Without such a valve overfilling is possible unless you do what the bottling plants do and weigh the cylinders as they fill, terminating at the correct weight.

Even if you turned up at a forecourt with a gaslow cylinder, I doubt they'd let you fill up as the staff are not trained in identifying appropriate cylinders for filling. They have a blanket "no cylinders" policy at all LPG garages I've seen.

It does work out cheaper than Calor gas cylinders, but only for the smaller cylinder sizes.

There was a photo doing the rounds of "countrywide" account holders, showing the remains of a burned out mobile home type campervan. Big and expensive one ...   

Owner had modified something to enable him to refill calor bottles and was doing so at the unmanned filling point.

What the prat he had forgotten was that his fridge was lit on gas, (also stupid whilst driving) and when you fill a cylinder it vents .... cue fuel + ignition = fire ....

you might save a few quid every fill .. but is it really worth a few months in a hospital burns unit and scarred for life??
