It's a total farce. BP were apparently lobbying the UK government, but "probably not" the Scottish parliament, who made the decision.  Yet, the decision was all a result of BPs lobbying.  :-/ They really are scraping the bottom of the barrel.

What next? Did BP shoot kennedy? Are they hiding Elvis away somewhere? Did they drive the car that collided with James Dean's Porsche? ;D

Oil probably figured to some degree when the Westminster Government of the day ordered the release.  I would suggest that there were many other factors involved however.

The fact that some elements within the socialist Administration of the United States seem to be adopting a strident tone in this regard is relatively unimportant, as it's mostly for domestic consumption in light of the forthcoming elections.

The current prime minister should put President Obama and any other colonial politicians firmly back into their box over this issue during the course of his visit. :y

It's a good job us Brits and the rest of the world don't blame America for kicking off the recession with all their bad debt, even though that genuinely is their fault, in the same way they are so quick to point the finger when they kop some grief. Typical yanks, the one way street only ever goes their way.

Disgusting situation whatever.

"hi libya - hows the weather in Tripoli?"

"never mind that, look you know that guy we sent over to take the fall for Lockerbie?"

"oh yeah"

"well...you know that we know he didnt actually do it....and you know he didnt actually do it.....and the families victims know he didn't actually do it - well, not the American families, obviously we had to pay them billions - dont worry we can afford it, spectacularly rich - all that oil just sloshing around you know"

"go on..."

"well, i think we've pretended long enough - isn't it time we oiled the wheels of justice a little, you know, you scratch our back we'll scratch yours? oils well that ends well....so to speak"

"but, surely the people would suspect? i'm mean...we cant just let the guy go - there'd be riots!!"

"what if you let him out on medical grounds?"

"medical grounds? i saw him just the other day - he looked in fine fettle"

"no he didnt"

"yes he did - 100% - fit as a butchers dog he was!"

"no he wasnt, hes only got weeks to live"

"weeks to live? i really dont know what you....oh, oh i see - yes very clever, nudge nudge wink wink......but wont there be an inquest - all this is highly irregular........"

"dont worry, Scotland, we've spoken to BP, the deals done - just need you to put an official stamp on it, dot the eyes, cross the tees"

"but the inquest?"

"BP'll handle it - they said they've got a little distraction up their sleeve when the time comes..."

Very amusing BJ ;D - but the notion that anyone within the then administration at Holyrood actually made this decision is misplaced in my view.

This was a matter for the (figuratively) grown-up's at Westminster.

In that case Mud don't hold back, there are plenty of other companies in the same line of business that are deserving of your condemnation. :y

As for BP, I'll use their fuel as well as anyone else's to keep mobile.

Liked that BJ.

The fact is that this sort of thing is the tip of the iceberg. There are 100s of dirty deals like this that (thankfully) never reach the public domain. That is why we employ an army of overpaid civil servants (and pay them ridiculous bonuses).

Oh and someone will get hung out to dry but they will get bacvk into public office very quickly - they always do..

I was rather surprised to hear on tv last night that BP is the biggest oil company and, therefore, biggest oil company employer in the US.
The American plan, as far as I can see, is to weaken BP to such a level where a takeover is probable. No guessing which nationality they would prefer to take charge of the colonialist polluters.
