computer question

Hope someone can help 

My kids computer is running xp and wont boot  its saying that system 32 is corrupt and to fix using xp cd that i dont have..  Is there any other way of  fixing or do i need to get another copy of xp.

what in system32 is corrupted?

Also, does the hard disk sound healthy?

There is no abnormal noises from hard drive..

On startup it says
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
\windows\system32\config\system

You can attemp to repair this file by starting widows setup using the original setup cd-rom.
select 'r' at the first screen to start repair

ah, yes, indeed.

Shagged registry.  Certainly fixable, but probably better to rebuild from scratch again. After all, it is XP ;D

Either way, you are likely going to need a correct XP CD.  Presumably, your XP is licenced, so you can use any media that is the right type (OEM/VLK/Retail) and Version (Pro/Home/MCE).

If its a genuine copy you can download them from torrents as you have your own genuine key, just make sure its the right version  :y
