Total closure kit fitted
« on: 17 February 2007, 18:50:55 »

And it works a treat. Deadlock the car, and a second later any open windows or sunroof are closed. It can be cancelled at any time by unlocking again.

I used a kit from www.totalclosure.com - not the cheapest out there but it is a good quality piece of kit with an internal fuse and 2 year guarantee. Took me around 1.5 hours from start to finish, but that was soldering all the connections rather than using the provided Scotchloks (which I hate with a passion, really don't trust them) so it can be done quicker if you're prepared to put up with the Scotchloks. Pretty easy to do, only 3 wires to the alarm module plus a power and ground wire. I ran the power wire to an unused slot in the interior fusebox and put a 5 amp fuse in.

You get some pretty decent instructions with the kit, it's written for a Vectra but all the wire colours match and most of it applies to the Omega too (with the exception of removing the kick panel).

Well worth it IMO, I had this on both my Audi and Subaru and I used it all the time, just getting out the car with the window down and letting it close automatically. Seldom used it on the Omega as I couldn't be bothered standing waiting while holding down the button. Unfortunately my BMW is of the type where you have to hold down the button too (although it does "total open" as well as total close) and I'm not sure if this kit can be adapted.

Looks somewhat 8-) too!

So do the windows and sunroof just close when you press the fob twice to deadlock the car?

I quite like the idea of doing this. As it's annoying standing there holding the button, especially when you have a dodgy remote and the button won't hold down properly.

Will have to add this to my "to do" list.

What's in the kit then? A few years back I bought an off the shelf box of tricks/'relay' so that I could add remote central locking to my wife's Hyundai. Thoughtfully  :-/ (or should that be for cheapness ::) ) the car was originally fitted with just 3 central locking motors - YOU were the locking motor for the driver's door. This relay which triggered the additional door motor could be adjusted to give just half a second pulse to lock or unlock the door up to about 45 secs. It sounds very similar to what you bought.

Good result Paul.  I know you've been aching to fit this upgrade for some time.

Cheers guys. Yeah the kit allows you to just deadlock and it will close all the windows and sunroof -- exactly as if you'd held the button down until they'd closed. That's actually what it does, it simply clamps the signal to the alarm module to make it appear that you're holding the key in the locked position for 20 secs or so.

I haven't opened it up to have a look as it's got a "warranty void if removed" sticker on one of the screws, but I've seen photos of one and it's solid state with the usual supporting components (resistors, diodes, probably a voltage reg with some stiffening capacitors) and an 800mA fuse. There's also an LED mounted into the case that illuminates when it's active, could be useful if any problems occur. I'm pretty confident I could have built one myself for less using a 555 timer (or even a 12c508 PIC, which would be way OTT for this) but to be honest I couldn't be bothered as I really hate building stuff from stripboard and I don't really have the time anyway. There are cheap kits that occasionally come up on eBay at around a tenner, but I was happy to pay the extra with the knowledge that these are well built and reliable going by the reviews I looked up on a few of the Vectra forums. Fit it and forget it as the proverb goes.

Got one of these on my Vectra, if I took it out now then i'd never remember to close the sunroof / windows and leave them wide open when I park!

Will definately be transfering this across to my Omega (when I get it!). Any chance of a 'How too' with pics for others? I know it wasn't too dificult to fit on the Vectra.

I never bothered with a how-to as I basically just followed the instructions included with the kit, the Omega is exactly the same with the exception of removing the kick panel. There are two screws holding this, one is just behind the bonnet release and the other is underneath the plastic trim that runs alonside the sill next to the driver's seat so you need to partially remove that too (just unclip the strip with the Vauxhall logo then unscrew the torx screws).

I've also bought one from the totalclosure website - not got round to fitting it yet - but am hoping to do so tomorrow (if the rain holds off long enough!!)

Is there any demand for a how-2 on fitting this?

Nice compact bit of kit, and a great 'how to' as well.
If I can get to the stage of buying things I want for the motor instead of things I need, then this might go on the shopping list.  ::)

Just one question, why oh why did vauxhall not do this from new, you look such a t@#t standing there with your remote waiting for everything to close, you can almost hear folks saying "look at that poser"
Cheers, Jez

I think it's one of those liability things, even though it's got sensors to prevent limbs getting trapped during closing. My BMW is exactly the same, you have to hold the button down and it's a right PITA. I'm thinking of trying to wire one of these kits to that as well but it's a much more complex setup which uses a CAN communication bus -- the 4-way window control switch has only 4 wires -- so I'm not sure I'll be able to do it. One option is to try wiring it into the door at the key switches, as you can total close using the key too just like the Omega.
