Pull the lid off and look for any working LEDS on the mother board, this might indicate that power is getting though.

Then take all wires off the system and board and remove the power supply if you are still thinking that is the problem.

Chances are it is caked in dust, take it out side with a new 1" paint brush and remove as much dust as possible.

Then if possile remove the PSU lid, may have to break some seals to undo the screws.

More dusting maybe?

Now you are looking for a circuit fuse, generally a galss one, if it's blown, then replace and rebuild in reverse.

If that's cured it, then PM me and I will send my paypal addy for payment.

If not, just bin it all.  (JOKE  ::))

I have a couple of these machines and have been here before.

There was a faulty motherboard batch which seems to fail just out of warranty. If you are inside the warranty then HP will replace it FOC, if its outside they wont - simple as that. A new motherboard from HP costs silly money.

The motherboard is also a non-standard size and the OEM versions of Windows will only work with the HP Motherboard  :-/

There is a product code label on the machine which contains everything they need to make the decision - so I suggest contacting HP to see what transpires.

It could also be a PSU fault, these are only rated @ 160 Watts - which is a bit feeble.

I hope your mate has his data backed up.

Good luck.
