My old station was pretty good (and they did repairs) - once was told that if I could get the fog light bulb fixed before he'd finished taking down the VIN number, i'd be fine - and the next time he gave me 20 minutes and loaned me a jack to change the tyre for the spare..since been taken over by others and don't use it any more..

Not had a silly failure like that for a good while though - silly causes, though.  Wife's Mini failed on a driveshaft boot leaking (said split) - was actually grease dripped down from the top balljoints...

Apart for he always puts advisories for plastic sills and worn pads, I've never really had an issue with this place.

I've actually checked the test manual, and what he's failed it on, and there is no way it could have failed on that (dingly dangly from mirror affecting Zone A).

But fact remains I have a pass on it, so nothing gained from paying for a dispute, and I want to continue using this station, believe it or not.

I've just returned from the MOT station with a PASS for the diseasal Astra and asked about the air freshener. YIPEE!

'My' tester said he'd been pulled up by VOSA (over the phone) to ask why his fail rate was only around 20/25% and the average is more like 35%. His explanation was that they get alot of trade vehicles that have are presented by garages who've pre-checked them and ambulances that are only a year old. Explanation was good enough but VOSA still said that he wasn't failing people on beam alignment .... why? He said he adjusted as he went along, saved time & effort all round. VOSA said he should be failing them first, adjusting it and then logging it as a 'PRS' Pass Repaired in Station. It's all about statistics!
So ... The Boy's MOT tester was just going by the book to keep VOSA's statistics happy!

Statistics, performance indicators, targets, or whatever you want to call them, seem to control everything in our lives  these days, and create a mass of unecessary paperwork, what happened to common sence and flexibiity. >:( :-X Sorry, pet hate. ::)
