.......used the time to clear rubbish out the boot and check the oil - guy came over and asked how do you get the pump to stay on? I thought jamming the petrol cap in the handle to keep the trigger pressed was common knowledge? I remember they used to have a wee clasp you could use to lock them on, pump automatically switches off when the tanks full anyway

Zippo lighter used to be the classic way with derv pumps that had a broken lock.

if you look at the gun the holes are still there where the pin used to be fitted, and most guns still have the latch that would hold against the pin. Now .... if you were to supply your own pin ....... you'd still be able to lock the gun on 'fill'

Small allen key in one of those spring holder things on the car keys would do fine.

Filled up yesterday morning, cost £27. .......left my LPG filler cap on the bootlid and drove off though, got to go back to the garage this morning on the off chance that they found it.

The biggest drawback with filling with lpg (apart from turning your hand into a block of freeze dried meat ) is having to stand with your digit pressed on the pumps fill button! :-/

I went back to the garage and had a look yesterday morning but no luck. Then about half a mile down the road - after a roundabout and a couple of sharp turns, I saw something lying at the side of the road, and there it was.Hadnt even been run over.

I think he was just really pleased to get it back Zulu, don't think he actually got that overexcited
