2.5 TD Elite v 525 TD SE  Both 1999 models

Having had both, BM would leave the Mig standing.

E38 7 series, gorgeus cars imo.If I wasnt scared of the potential running costs, I would buy one tomorrow.
Nothing to do with which badge is or isnt on the front,I just think they are lovely cars.

As many top psychologists will tell you (I'm not one btw): "attitude drives behaviour".

So when I ee said BMW driving in said manner, i daren't think what their attitude is!

Exactly.

BMW make fine cars from what I've seen. But well overpriced for what they are, based on e39d touring,(touring means estate by the way,  the w**kers) it sounds not like a d, turbo spins up nicely, the car gives a good impression just listening to it drive past, but it fails in the same areas omegas do, wayward handling, cam cover leaks for the same reasons on the petrols, sensors and bushes, of which there are twice as many, all fail the same.

So why pay extra for the same? Iirc, e39 owner said mine has more power than his 3.0.diesel, which he paid 21k for! Why? Because of the badge, image(well he got that wrong as well) and thought he was getting more car for twice the money. Ho loves it as a car, but curses at it 20 times more than I curse at mine, plus I have a large lump of cash still in the bank.

He does not drive like a cock by the way, unlike most, so I still think he has the wrong car....obviously.  :)

Never been a big fan of the BMW looks being honest other than one, don't know what type it was but has a pointed front with pop up head lights and its V8 sounded lovely.
Again its horses for courses, they sell alot of BMW's so they must be pretty good.  :y

2002ti? Or perhaps a 1980's 635CSi. :-*

Wouldn't touch their current offering, putting aside the fact that nobody would let me out of T junctions. ;)

Yes, they have got more popular, because they have cheapened their offering to Mondeo level to get more of the repmobile market but are trading on a reputation built in the 1970's and 1980's and, IMHO, it shows in the quality.

The Omega is the better car for me, for so many reasons.

You are trying to say that one car is better than another merely because it is faster, which isn't really a good comparison. That is only one aspect, what about someone who doesn't want to go fast?

I'm not TRYING to say anything, I stated that, in my opinion, an M5 is a better car than a top of the range Vauxhall... I wasn't necessarily on about how fast they go, in fact I didn't mention performance at all...

Good debate lads but here's my opinion..

Who cares which one is better......? Its again all down to personal choice. If you think a BM is a better car then go buy one...

There is no better car than the one you have a personal passion for..

My mother has a Renault Scenic and she thinks thats the best car on the road  :o

I think the Omega is the better car,but again thats only because i like the way it drives, looks etc so i would argue all day long that its better than the same spec BMW(that doesnt mean its 'technically' better) its just better for me :y

leaving the BMW drivers aside as its totally a different subject, in order to compare them we must take similiar size chasis and engine models..

imo 5 series is comparable only, as 7 series are bigger than omega..

520 , 525 , 530 must be the comparison range..

now if you compare them with
tco (total cost of ownership) / technical performance miggy will always win..

however for technical specs only some of BMW specs like variable valve timing technology, zf autobox, dsc  (dynamic stability control) shows  those cars are better in engineering respect..
