Way back in the days of my plooky youth in the real navy - The British Merchant Navy (thats the one without the guns to shoot back...) - we used to regularly partake of bacardi in all its assorted forms....

Straight Bacardi Carta Blanca, Gold, Light Dry, Dark Dry etc but the big chief was 151 proof.

I subsequently purchased a bottle in the US in 2001 and managed to nurse it into 2010 and then it expired.....

Enyone else enjoyed such devils brew??

I lamented its demise such that my two kids managed, via the powers of the internet and cold cash, to get me another bottle and so tonight, am warmly enjoying a couple of extended Coba Libre's.

I still remember the feeling of sailing into a force 12 when leaving Savana after getting completely hammered on Bacardi 151. I was young, stupid & just turned 23 so excerised absolutely no control on my drinking the day/night before we sailed!!!!!!!!
I was poorly to say the very least  :-? :-?  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

I thought I was in the real Navy!   ::)  ::)  ::)  :y

Some more years back than I care to remember, a small south american country called Belize had a minor punch up with its slightly larger neighbour. Being a British Dependency UK Forces were deployed to assist. The VC10's carried the boys .. the C130 Hercules carried the kit, but there wasn't enough room at Belize Airport for all the aircraft .. so we (Herc crews) were not allowed to stay there .. we had to stop at a very nice Carribean Island overnight, then do there-belize-back there the next day... for another overnighter. It was "standard procedure" to collect a couple of bottles and a slab of coke on the way to the hotel to consume on the beach. One trip the young loadmaster picked up 151 instead of normal bacardi .... 'Twas very fortunate that the next day one of the engines would not start as I doubt we would have been very legal had we got airbourne !!!   :)

Very nice stuff .. but somewhat lethal in large quantities !!

True, but I did set off the low level alarm quite timeously....

Finished the original one tonight, cracked the seal on the Fathers Day (past) replacement shortly thereafter.

Must be doing well tonight.

Onto my third full size one and still able to judge suitable for another.

Glad its day off tomorrow!   :D   ;D

WOW!!!   Rocket fuel.

Drank a whole bottle in an hour in my (stupid) student days............
Suffice to say I did NOT go to lectures the next day, and talked to God down the big white telephone.

Slightly OT, but I have recently read Phoenix Squadron which tells the (true) story of the Buccaneer missions from Ark Royal which were aimed at putting the 'neighbour' back in their box! And it worked.....

A good read, I commend it to the house - er, forum...
