Castle combe saturday
« on: 18 April 2007, 23:27:52 »

Of to combe on saturday with my track toy with the 2ltr 16v in it now.

Cant wait to take it out as had alot of work done to it over the last few months and want to see how it goes.

Last year i killed the 1.6 gte lump that was in it (100 bhp) chassing a scooby around combe. This year i hope to wipe the floor with it.(tuned/camed/chipped/headwork 2ltr 16v 171 bhp).

All this in a nova thats only around the 700 kg mark.

Wish me luck.

 The Stick.

Yes its good fun, Years ago i had a Mk1 Escort that had a 1100cc engine in at first until i put a 1600 out of a cortina, Left the car as standard, complete with the old drum brakes. 0 to 80 in a flash screaming in top gear as i left the box and diff in also. Couldnt stop the damn thing though, Remember towing another escort  and pulling away from this geezer in his Jag, I can still see the look on his face.  ;D And my brothers face in the escort behind.

At lease you use it in the wet. Not like some people that have a car just to sit in the garage and cost money.
Looks good mate are you going on saturday ?

If so come say hello.

Fraid I wont be there mate, sold the mx6 last year to get something more "kiddy" friendly.

That day was my 1st trackday and it was scary to say the least! The standing water on the main straight gave you wheelspin at 100mph as you approach the right hander into the dip. As for braking, that was a lottery. I managed to keep an Evo 5 behind me for 15 minutes til a latecomer in an Impreza decided to re-arrange his car and the barriers at the 2nd chicane. To be honest, I was glad to come off at that point as me and another MX6 owner where having a ding dong and I had the red mist and started to take chances. Not a good idea when you have to drive home later!

I enjoyed Castle Coombe 10 times more than Silverstone, despite lapping the full GP circuit. The track is so big at Silverstone that theres no concept of speed. At 130+ down the Hanger straight there is nothing to tell you when to brake other than skid marks on the track. I decided to have 3 laps then go back to the pits. Give me a twisty track like CC, Oulton Park or Knockhill any day.

Once i'm married in 4 weeks time and the work improves for me I might see if another mx6 is possible as a toy but at the moment my life has other priorities.

She did get driven hard tho, as you can see

Dont think she would touch the Nova round a track tho, that looks an impressive setup you have there.
