Seems there is a petrol thief on our street or I am totally over reacting ! I only noticed this the other day but the thieving could have been going on longer.

Range 12 miles, so I stuck 50 quid in which brought it to nearly 3/4 full. A trip to work and back (motorway) 18 miles, next day I start up only 1/2 a tank.

Its never used that much I think.

A friend gives me £10 for picking up some tables, so I put the £10 in as I am going on a 100 mile round trip today. The fuel filler cap is loose, I always 'click' tighten it.

I lock the car and try to open the fuel cover cap to which I can do with surprising ease despite a locking pin coming out.

Hmmm... I think, so off I trot to Halfords to buy a locking fuel filler cap! £15.99p (yeah expensive but so is fuel).

I have also noticed that you can get a hose pipe or fuel line down the fuel filler neck and actually get petrol out, so I think someone is helping themselves to the odd gallon or two.

I haven't cleaned the car for a while, nor have I filled it up much above 1/2 tank. So maybe these petrol thieves are cleaver enough to notice my finger marks along a dirty car near to where I fill her up and thought, oww.. he's filled up.

I have actually thought as of late, god this car is using some fuel, I know its a 3.0 V6 but it shouldn't be using so much lol.

Looks like they'll have a nice surprise when they try it again.

You might want to speak to KW and Skruntie and see if they can rig up one of their 500V bug zappers to the fuel flap.  That would be interesting when you have to step over the stunned body to get to your car

When I double blip mine on the key it puts a lock on the petrol flap so it can't be opened.
I thought this was a standard fitting because it's been on both the Omegas I've owned.
Might be worth seeing if it's working on your car.
I assume you do double blip when you lock your car, because this activates the dead locks and makes your car locked even if the rats break a window.

Yep.  Should lock with the car.  Worth testing that I suppose.

But I'm not sure £50 will get to 3/4 from empty (12 miles is empty) and you'd need more than £10 for 100 miles in mine - so perhaps just using it??

I'm sure I've left the filler a little loose from time to time (IIRC I think I left it just about off before now).

Um...  It sticks a little metal rod in a plastic hole in a plastic fuel-filler cover!  I'm not sure why anyone would be put off by it.

The fuel filler cap cover locks (pin comes out), a little force and you can open it, try it yourself's.

A petrol thief wouldn't be bothered about a plastic cover flap, locked or not. If they want your petrol they would just rip it off IMO! Anyway, chances are they wouldn't even bother with that, they'll just cut your petrol line!

In Bristol, the Pikeys use a rechargeable drill to drill a hole in your plastic tank and drain it!!
(not much defence against that.........)

Once they've been flash frozen to -40 a quick tap on the head  and then a dustpan and brush to clean up the bits.
