Public Transport - Never again......
« on: 21 August 2010, 00:22:37 »

Decided to take Miss Vamps on a bus today, from Ripon to Leeds, for the 'experience'..... ::) ::)

On the way to Leeds, not only does the bus stop every 100 yards or so in the built up areas we only got 3 miles out of Ripon when the bus had to stop. An elderly lady had taken ill and an ambulance was called, rightly so, these things can happen :( but we could get on the next bus, which came just as we were on our way again ::) ::) ::)

On the way home the bus broke down in the middle of nowhere and we had to wait for the next bus.. ::) ::)

We learned form our 'experience'  Car's rule OK.... :y

I'll go with you on that when i was financially challenged and without a vehicle a few years back i had to commute everyday to work on public transport. Boy did i work hard every hour i could in order to get back to car ownership. :y

A few years ago, before I retired, I had my car written off, by a boy racer low life, car was parked at the time, he lost it and wrote off 5 cars.

I was without a car for about 3 weeks, so had to comute via public transport.

The thing I objected to was having to sit next to the great unwashed, first thing in the morning. >:(

I can count on one hand the number of times I have been on a bus in the past 5 years.  I hate them...for the most part they are noisy, cumbersome, dirty, inefficient and driven by drivers who should be ashamed to call themselves professional.  Also in order to accomodate everyone all the tedious stops just frustrate me.  Even in uni in Sheffield I lived at the top of Crooks and I cycled to and from classes because I hate buses so much.

Easy Gaffers,a bit of a general assumption there mate, not all bus drivers are the same, i certainly wasn't >:(

On the other hand i do know what you mean, i did work with a few less than proffesional drivers, bus drivers went down hill when the job centres started putting people through the PSV test to get them off the social ::)
People who didn't want to work in the 1st place didn't make for 'proffesional' bus drivers

Having driven buses, coaches etc for 12 years i can assure you it aint as easy as some people think it is..
On service buses you deal with junkies, drunks, the great unwashed, work shy lay abouts, chavs etc etc etc all day every day who want to abuse you, rob you, spit on you, threaten you with needles, knives and all sorts..
and then to put the same type of people behind the wheel just to get them off benefits doesn't make for good drivers :o

That why I said for the most part :y

I knew quite a few bus drivers when I was a kid and they were professional, you could tell they took pride in the way they drove, presented themselves and their bus.  Nowadays agressive, inconsiderate and borderline dangerous driving seems to be the norm.

They probably have targets to meet like everybody else. It's not enough just to have happy customers these days. >:(

Some companies expect drivers to bring in a set amount of takings!

late night/last buses are the worst. non waiting at the terminas untill the appointed time, just flat out from the rest point till home.

watching a program about phildelphia the other night. 50% of the pop use public transport.

no chance here. £1.20 pp, 4 people to the door in a  local taxi £6. why wait in the cold?

Does not matter the transport with public, plane train or bus, i ALWAYS get the nutter next to me, ALWAYS.

Not been on a bus for 10years now, in Reading its quicker to walk, hopeless.
