It does a little as the police usually have their own auctions for siezed/confiscated vehicles. Perhaps they are trying to go high tech ;D

looks like a vehicle that the police have siezed, and given authority by the courts to sell and recover assets of crime, i.e. they have arrested somebody, found guilty, and the court has ordered their assets to be siezed and sold to either give compensation to a third party, or to defray costs incurred.
have seen this many times, but usually some expensive fancy car used by a criminal as a getaway car or smuggling car. This could just be a car used for drugs running or similar.

I think the fact he says in the ad...

"It has been registered in the name of the Constabulary and a V5 Registration document will be provided on completion of the sale.

It has been checked with HPI and police vehicle identity examiners and, as far as can be ascertained, is a genuine vehicle and without outstanding finance recorded against it."

:o Sounds dodgy to me!! ;D

Quick phone call confirms its an "asset of criminal activity"

So why on E-bay, not on the official HM auction site?

Mmm.....tend to agree with you on this one.

I live a mile away so will have a look tomorrow
Mendem Motors is a genuine garage who specialise in recovery work (they recovered my wife's Micra after it was hit & ferried my tractor back home after I hydrolocked it in 2007)

Having worked for Hampshire Police as an Authorised Recovery Agent (albeit with a different Garage based in Basingstoke) I know this was being discussed about 8 years ago!

Basically, they are selling it by order of the police to recover some of their recovery costs (if I understand the situation correctly) :y :y

Oh... And I also know/knew the guys at Mendem Motors and they are/were pretty good guys ;) ;)

Just looked at it
It was seized in March from a local Travellers site in connection with a crime
Originally sold for £550 to someone in Birmingham who did not turn up to collect much to the disgust of the Police who had travelled up from Southampton to hand it over
It's not bad at all, a bit mucky inside with detritus from whoever used it last.
Both bumpers have some crazing & the front is a little loose
Cloudy patch bottom NS corner of windscreen where water has got into laminates
Few minor scratches as shown in photos
Tyres good
