New iPhone 4 - any good?
« on: 02 September 2010, 21:59:51 »

Had a call from vodafone today telling my two numbers are due for a mobile upgrade (Busness), did the usual as Im on a rolling 12 month contract and asked for more airtime discount instead of an upgrade, the Vodaguy looked into it and basically said Im already maxed out on airtime discount, in fact He was suprised about the deal Im on!

I get -
500 mobile mins
Unlimted landline mins for 01, 02 and 08 something numbers
Unlimited text,s
Unlimited mobile internet
Unlimited voice, fax and free email push
Passport, stop the clock, international call saver
24 month business warenty with 24 hour replacement on any phone through them
All for 14.50 per month per mobile on a 12 month contract with no direct debit, pay against invoice.

Did explain to the guy that Ive been with Vodafone since 1990 and it taken me a while to build all this up.

The guy went away and spoke to His Boss,, came back and said I can keep the tarrifs, but if I upgrade from a 12 month to a 18 month contract He will send out 2 new iPhone 4's out next day.

Are these phones any good, are they re saleable?, dont really want to be changing to an 18 month contract unless the mobiles are decent or I can at least make a profit on them.

Any thoughts?

Quite a usable smartphone IF you can tolerate Apple's way of doing things.

They do suffer poor signal strength in weak areas, this is a fundamental issue, not just the much hyped antenna issue, and affects all iPhones.

Vodafone is pretty universally shite for decent coverage, not sure iPhone + Voda is a good combo. In fact its not.  I was in Milton Keynes earlier today, struggled with signal strength all day. Doesn't work in my home town either.

I've never had any of these signal issues yet with mine, nor has my son I don't think. Only the normal issues with Vodafone in certain area's. They're fantastic phones really are. Put it this way if you don't open the box, I'd almost guarantee you'll get at least £1000 for the pair if 16gb's and more if 32gb models :y

Tbh TB, that was the main reason I stuck with Vodafone, a few years back I used to travel the country in my Radio Comms job and found Voda the only one to offer spme sort of coverage in rempte areas, with the exception of Cellnet, sorry O2, the other facture was a proper english person on the end of the phone when you have a problem.

Must admit I am a bit of a Ericison nut, now sadly SE but they dont do a bad job otherwise we would all be living in Nokia land.

overall good phones, i use mine more as a multimedia device rather than phone, but its still very good.

Android has a long way to go, and is still lacking some very basic features!

When Phones were Phones, I always had Ericssons.  I still use Sony Ericssons.  Not half as good as they used to be, but far FAR better than any Nokia since the 3210.

On Topic.  the iPhone is a great gadget, awesome for browsing the net, great for Apps.... absolutely shit as a phone.  No proper keypad, just a touch screen bag a crap.  Leave it to the kids to use.  Get a PHONE and use it as a PHONE!  ;D

Imo, take the offer and sell them, they are desirable as gadgets, i would think not so good as a phone, esp for business, most smart phones strugle with battery life, although not familiar with the 4.

if you do sell i might be interested, if it suits. Although i am on voda currently, would prefer o2 with iphone i think. :-/

Crickey, are you sure about that DB, was thinking poss 250 per phone tbh, that might be worth switching to a 18 month contact, short term??, long term sticking with a 12 month contract on the tarrif Im on, who knows whats around the corner, theres not many 12 mths around these days on non direct debit, which I hate by the way.
 ;) ;) ;)

edit, these are 32gb and 3g and Edge (HSDPA Broadband) models, but locked to Vodafone.

Blimey!!

Bloke in work has just got one in the last month. Sending it back ASAP cos its crap reception, and the operating system is too limiting for his wants and needs.
Has bought an HTC thing which he loves to bits now. don't really understand these things too much, but he had the iPhone 3Gs before and loved it.(???????)
I'll stick to my Blackberry Pearl 3G as I can understand and work it ok..............

I understand what your post means now Proz, did have me baffled when I first read it!  ;)

Not looking good is it, for someone like Apple admitting they have done there sums wrong,

"Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong"

and Apple offering a World Wide FULL 30 Day refund if your not happy, are the Network Operators going to  cancel your 18 or 24 month Airtime Contract and give you a refund within 30 Days?, are they f,,k.

Dont say that Ive had enough RF burns in my job to last me a life time, mind you dont think a a few milliwatts from a Cell phone is going to make much of an impression.
