hi,

just read the thread on what MV6 stands for.... very interesting but isnt it more interesting that the MV6 that everyone loves for it's pace is actually only 1 second faster from 0-60 than my standard 2.5 CD.

i checked the figures out on parkers.

i just expected a lot more. your thoughts?

Definitely, I've got an elite which i think is great, but just got an MV6 and it is sooooo much better in the bends it's unreal. I mean, you wouldn't believe the difference, i didn't know big cars could handle like that! And as we all know, in the real world, you don't race 0-60 in a straight line.

When i first joined i had a lovely 2.5 CD manual which is still a members car today. While i still had the 2.5 i asked on here what difference is there between the 2.5 & 3.0? I had many helpful answers but the one that stuck (sorry i forgot who!)was"the 3.0 is just gruntier". I then bought the Beastie from Hotel21 as he needed an estate. Only a second or two 0-60 & a few mph on top end buy alot more mid range pull. The MV6 handles a little better due to slightly firmer suspension & lower profile tyres which makes a big difference, & has Recaro seats. Engines are same as equivelant Elite though.

You will notice the difference if you try both.  The 2.5s are lower geared to make the acceleration acceptable, leading to higher cruising revs.

I personally would always go for the 3.0/3.2 over the 2.5/2.6 if the choice was purely on the engine...

I've tried both & have to agree. If going for it in a manual 3.0 you'll hit 60 in 2nd, the ton in 3rd just as you approach the red.
  You can also cruise at 80mph & 3000rpm.

Stick the 2.5/2.6 dif in the 3.0/3.2. Cake and eat....

4.2 ratio dif going in soon. Just hope the LPG can keep up.

Hi chrisgixer, how would i go about doing this (changing the diff), if i've done my abs ecu and o/s exhaust manifold gasket could i do this? Thanks

I even saw 'my' old car back up for sale, went to view it and listened to the crap the seller had supposedly done to the car ........ I'd done it all  :-? and still umm'd & ahh'd as to whether to buy it back. It'd gone by the time I'd made my mind up.     
If only I had £10k lying around, I'd buy the Lotus Senator

I'll let you know when I have done it, but no reason why not. Expect more revs and noise and slightly worse economy, but some wheelys maybe?

If you ever did an indicated 90 in your Omega, you'd only be doing 88.  ....... Apparently!
