NEW CAR THEFT SCAM-PLEASE READ
« on: 08 September 2010, 14:11:21 »

This has just come from one of our branches rep's whose just nearly got caught out by this:

A baby seat from a car with a doll inside it is left in a layby just off a rural road. MOST people on seeing this would stop and investigate the "abandoned" baby. Whereupon people appear from the side, threaten you (or worse) to hand over your car keys, and steal your car. The insurance may not pay out on this cos they took it with the keys.

Better to call the Police immediately, IF it is a baby, they will be there in minutes and deal with it to the correct people. Our rep called the Police, and on their attendance, two middle eastern males ran across the field to a waiting accomplice in a car.

Lets face it, how many of us would'nt stop if they saw a baby on the side of the road??

BE WARNED>>>>>TELL YOUR WIVES AND GIRLFRIENDS.

(this has been bandied around on an E-mail. obviously others have picked up on it cos it stands a good chance of working)

like I said, our rep passed it on a dual carriageway, and could'nt turn around easily, or by her own admission she would have stopped..............result in that case would have been one lost 10 plate Seat car!! (plus possibly one injured young lady too........................)

My sister in law had her 4x4 taken while warming up in the winter, I posted at the time, they are still fighting with the Insurance company as the keys were in the car and engine running. Seems likely they will lose the case and insurance will not pay out.... :(
No one nicked swmbo Omega estate though... :D :D which the thieves would have driven past on their escape.... ::) ::)

Same as most 'Please forward to all your friends' type e-mails. Whether 'Scam Warnings', 'Forward this within 'X' amount of time and something good will happen to you' or a heart warming 'true story'. Most are just a way of gathering e-mail addresses etc.  I delete all I receive.

Doesn't mean it won't happen. Often these things start as 'urban legend' there's lots of them, but... nasty people might well think hmmm that's a good idea  >:( then urban legend become reality.. think sixstring points this out on the end of his OP. It's not uncommon in mainland spain to be flagged down by a bogus broken down motorist who will then have an accomplice out of site who's job is to simply rifle through your belongings inside the vehicle. of course they distract you first & even thank you and wave you on your way. elderly couple I know got caught with it... emptied her purse and popped it back in her handbag  >:( Spanish police not interested and just refer to it as regular occurance with local bandits. once bitten twice shy.. they're still flagged down 2-3 times in a week but obviously don't stop  :y

Steve was saying old news, I've heard it before because you posted it on here and the thread was snipped, I don't think he meant that he'd heard the story before.

mmm.....seems its an old one that some people have "resurrected" cos it obviously works.
Still, a lot of people know about it, so hopefully it won't for long.
