Something odd ...
« on: 09 September 2010, 11:30:51 »

Probably been happening a while .. but I've only just noticed it ...

Welcoming a "Newbie" and I noticed that their opening post said "no of posts = 0"  can't be true as they have just posted 1 ... :)

Not important I know ... just odd ......   :)

We are discussing the newbie section and methods to stop the spamming of posts to increase peoples post counts which results in pages of replies and newbies hello posts disappearing into oblivion.

As a temp measure, no post counts are awarded in the newbie section at the moment

Can you not require a minimum post count to welcome Newbies?

Seem reasonable to me. ;)

A good idea without doubt, is there any point in having a post credit in that section in the first place?

Can it not be done where by only page 1 is active and one you head to page 2 2 then no posts allowed.

Or make it like the sales section, a member has to have 250 posts before he can welcome newbies.

Or maybe a ruling/setting that the post count of a newbie just wont allow them to welcome newbies either.

Worry not, we may have a cunning plan, watch this space (although I for one favour the no post credit in newbies)

Never welcomed a newbie. They're just ingrates who want to get 250 posts to flog their clapped out omega. Just my opinion you understand. ::)

That sounds a wee bit time consuming. You are forgetting that, in the main, people have a life outside the forum.

Sorry to go off at a tangent, but Skruntie, your Avatar is distracting me from reading the Posts properly, is there any chance you could make certain points a little larger so I'm able to scan from text to pic without too much adjustment? :-? ;) ;D :y

Is it as cunning as a fox what used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the U.N. at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning?

The reason its still being discussed is that I disagree with with Marks DTM Calibration.  This disagreement may have lead us on to another possible solution that may or may not work...
