Realistically - it will need to be one of those horrible little sh!teboxes which does 65mpg,with little or no VED to pay. :'(
Doesn't need to be a little car for that, blue-efficiency Mercedes are very good, BMW 320ed, Insignia ecoflex, Astra ecoflex. Plenty of good compact executives out there with low tax now  :y

One of my brothers just got a Signum 2.8 V6 Turbo Elite, because its reg. before I think March 06 the tax is £245 a year instead of £435 a year.

Its quite quick and a smooth ride :y

Vxr 8....too pricey ATM. And very basic, no toys. but I doooo like it :-*
BMW, rwd maybe e39...but I rather hate the badge
Can't stand  jags, but like the badge
Don't like mercs, although I know very little about them

Only modern stuff that catches my eye is new shape passat, new shape accord, both wwd.

Begs the question is rwd really worth it? Dif weighs a ton, transmission tunnel uses foot well room. Cheeper to make without.

But then is there any such thing as a reliable front wheel drive auto?

With the F10 5 Series out now, you could get a decent E60 beemer instead of an E39  :y

I had a E60 530d saloon auto. It was an absolutely superb car. Fantastic performance, 32 mpg around town and 43 on a run. :y :y :y When my Omega or E39 BMW die, I will go for an E60, hopefully a 535D ;) ;)

I had an Audi A6 2.5 V6 TDI for 2 years, nice to drive, well weighted car, came with sports suspension + 17" rims its handled very well for its size, the V6 TDI sound much better :)

Only problems I had were with the brake sensor, twice.

Audi roadside assistance came and fixed it at my house and all was well again, the only thing I didnt like so much was the servicing cost but at least they gave you a decent car to drive while they had yours, brand new A4 sport line at the time.

I've had a 1.8T sport Passat (manual) since then and its never (touch wood) missed a step in the 3 years I have owned it, selling that now and have the Omega.

I just dont do many miles anymore so the 3l V6 is ok :D

A4 - 2.7/3.0 TDi Quattro  :y

Not sure on the Passat other than the R36, 3.6 V6 which makes a trouser wetting noise  :o

I know there is an A4 Quattro TDI, they also do a Passat with 4motion, TDI PD which was the higher power 1.9TDI's I think

They also did a 4.0 W8 with 4motion, that makes a nice noise  ;)
