You're right, that is nasty!

But otherwise does that look like a good buy...

The other, probably dumb question I wanted to ask is how new driver friendly would it be.  My wife is learning to drive in an auto Citroen Xsara and wants something she can practice in as well... as a named driver with me insuring the price isn't an issue, just wondering if she might find it too big?

That said, if you learn in something large you're always going to be ok later I guess?  Your thoughts?

Virtually the same as mine when i bought it, same colour and spec, price seems about right for the mileage (whats for the flood of "i wouldn't give more than 800) nice looking motor IMO :y

Difficult to comment, being no longer a new driver!  But I found the miggy easier to drive than the little skoda Fabia I am stuck with now. Much smoother, better visibility and easy to learn where the corners are. But .... a minor scuff could write it off in the insurers eyes!

As an aside I like the S-Type he has on the forecourt!

You certainly do !!!  Went back for a better look --- seems the front offside wing has been resprayed and the steering wheel has been removed at some point and not put back on straight (assuming he hasn't moved the car from taking the exterior pics). Been in a bit of a bump!
This would put me "on guard" regarding his other motors.
