Hi, all
I've not posted for some time, as I've been having a few problems with my 79 year old mother.
She has recently been diagnosed with alzheimer's. This is no surprise to me, as her behaviour has been very bizarre of late. She tends to have problems with time, she is unaware who is alive and who is dead. (She thinks her own parents are still alive, even though they have been dead some 25 years.)
She cannot be left alone, especially in the kitchen, and must be kept clear of hot water and the cooker.
She has also taken to aimless wandering. We have had to call the police to fetch her back on more than one occasion.
She is, essentially, in most ways a small child again.
Sadly, last week I got a phone call from my father informing me that she'd had a stroke. So Mr. Dusty and I drove 100 miles to see her in hospital. Unfortunately, she didn't recognise me.
I have to accept that she is unlikely to make a full recovery, and what little time she has left, we'll try and make as comfortable as possible for her
Right then, with that off my chest I hope you boys are all well, and having a great time here at the OOF. Best wishes Dusty.
