One of the greats from when comedy was harmless fun, without a hint of vitriol.

Not many left now, but I bet he's falling over the clouds right now.

RIP Norman, God Bless You.

Met him briefly at Belfast city airport in 2000. He was exactly the same in real life as on screen. I was walking behind him, but knew it was him because of that walk.
R.I.P. Sir Norman, thanks for all the childhood laughter.

I used to deliver his paper(no i can't remember what he read) He was a grumpy old so & so in real life but his son Nicky used to come out to the village rec. & play cricket with us. One Christmas i swapped my tip (£3) with the bin mens tip (£5) They were all left in a built in hole in the wall at the gates. To put the £2 difference into perspective i was in my early teens then & 20 Rothmans etc were 40p. £1 would buy you 4 pints.
This was in the mid/late 70's in West Chiltington, West Sussex where the parentage still live. Memories!!! :)

OMG! :'( I've just come across this & now I am genuinely gutted! Norman was my all time Favourite from being a snotnosed primary school kid to the runny nosed old git I am now! He was one of those Entertainers you either Loved or Hated, but you couldn't ignore him because he got under your skin as soon as you saw him for the first time! :) I think I got my love of the Royal Navy from watching his antics in The Bulldog Breed :y I can just see St. Peter stood by the Pearly Gates shouting PITKIN!!!! ;D :'(
