MV6 Insurance cheaper?
« on: 09 October 2010, 00:58:28 »

Hello all! From what I read on here would I be right in saying that most people seem to pay more to insure an MV6 as oppose to an Elite (same engine size)? Could this be due to its sportier set up?

Anyway, my Elite, is down on the logbook as an MV6 (it is actually an Elite though - I've heard something about Vauxhall making a cockup on facelift year). Even though it is an Elite, I can tell by the suspension, nice and soft, and all the toys, I insure it as an MV6, according to the logbook (who am I to argue with the DVLA?).

Contrary to what I've heard, it works out significantly cheaper to insure as an MV6, not an Elite. Quids in! :y

My 3.2 ex-plod shows up on the insurance database as an Auto Elite (both are wrong!)

Told them that the closest spec is MV6, and a Manual.  They then quoted me on an MV6 Auto, and adjusted it for a self-shifter, and it worked out £16 cheaper than an MV6 Auto  :-/

Anyroad, pay £210 fully-comp, with full no-claims  :y

based on quotes i've had this week for up coming new car....    facelift elite is dearer than any MV6

both facelift mv6 and elite are dearer than mini facelift elite....

daft...   my 3.0 elite is same spec as the later one,  but £140 or more a year cheaper than the Mv6 i'm looking at this weekend.

go figure....

I can see why a sportier version would cost more but why a difference manual to auto?

Which insurer? Who would ask them? I don't think we are an official club either, merely a collection of misfits people who like the same marque. Not sure how you become an official car club.

Most specialist insurers (Adrian Flux, Sky etc) will offer a discount if you say you're part of a club - and this would count.. I know MR2ROC does and realistically that was just a collection of misfits, too (ok now it has a committee and agenda and so on, but that's a recent thing.)

Sky Insurance post on ROC, I could always ask them to stick their noses in over here, too..

Years ago I had a daimler XJ6, lovely car. The insurance was cheaper than a Jaguar XJ6 despite it being plusher and more expensive car. I asked the insurance company why and they said cos the cheap XJ6's are bought and driven as "get away" cars! Maybe the same thing with Elite (plush) MV6 (getaway car) ;D ;D ;D ;D

Flux offered a discount to our car club,
I know they do discounts to other forums,

BTW ask for the discount AFTER you agree a price. ;D
