I have a problem with folk topping themselves. It shows a weakness of character & as said is selfish if your'e leaving family & loved ones to grieve. I've been in a few situations over the years where folk have done (or attempted to do themselves in)...prison, death of friends/family, breakdown of relationships, kept from children etc. I always think when you're at the bottom you can only go up, so suicide is weak.
That said we all deal with things differently & i don't think suicide or euthanasia should be illegal. Weak or not our lives are our own to do as we please with, not forgetting the terminally ill who if they choose should be afforded some dignity.
Lastly i don't know if any of you are aware of a case of a 19/20 years old english girl, leading a happy life & on a gap year in Australia (i think) decided she's simply had enough. Did'nt want to strive, go through Uni, career, marriage, children, all the normal stages of life. Nothing was wrong, she was'nt upset at anything in particular she just could'nt be bothered, too much of a drag, so she jumped leaving the explanatory note. Makes you think.

agreed.. there are ups and downs in life which is normal..but you must be prepared to bad moments of life in young years.. and parents must not protect you from everything.. you must definitely face some and solve yourself..

and another subject there must be several things in your life that gives meaning but not only one..  :y

I don't think you're weak if you're in the absolute depths of despair and can't see a way out and contemplate suicide.

I've never been there and I couldn't ever contemplate suicide, no matter how bad it got, 'the only way is up' is a most appropriate quote in this situation.

But most people haven't been there, and can't appreciate what drives these people to kill themselves. When you're in that state of mind you're probably thinking that the world, and your family, are better off without you. I've spent some time thinking about this as my brother recently gave us a bit of a scare when he lost his job and some friends and sunk into a deep depression which hit a low point one day.

Thankfully he's improved a lot lately, but I could see some of the turmoil he was in

Yes to a logical mind the only way is up but when things get so dark for these people i don't think logic comes into it anymore and support from those who love them i think is the only way to get out of a depression that would run so deep as to suicide, yes suicide is weak but probably telling someone who's contemplating it wouldn't help much!!!

Whoah. Thought i was witnessing a joke or something at first. Essentially seen a man die. In a brutal, fairly insensitive way that it sounds, it makes me feel a bit better, in a peverse way. Many of us may have thought those dark thoughts, but thinking and doing are so different, actually SEEING it makes you realise "No, that's not for me. I'll keep living"

Sad thing to see.

yep.. I do believe humans need to live and learn , no need for short cuts unless you are suffering a deadly disease and having cutting pain..
