Thats why I think wagons should be banned to the inside lane

Even when they come across the motorist who is happy trundling along at 50? Why should HGVs be banned to sit behind them?

On a section of the A1 in County Durham the Highways Agency are trialling an HGV ban in lane 2 to see if it cuts down congestion at peak periods.  HGVs are confined to the inside lane (it is only 2 lane) between 7am and 7pm.  Not sure how well it is working yet, or if any HGV drivers are taking notice of it.

They've been trialing the same thing on the A42 for some time now. But I never travel it enough to know if it made a difference.


Another reaction to overtaking I don't understand is people accelerating as you're going past? I came across this twice this bank holiday where I'm at a constant speed (cruise control set) and the car I'm overtaking accelerates to seeming stop me. I mean, why??  :-?

I flippin hate caravans. Cannot see the fascination. If you're going camping, go camping. If you want comfort, get a cottage.

The idea of being cramped up in a tiny box on wheels doesn't float my boat, and they shouldn't be allowed on roads at busy periods.


And yes, I have tried it. Pointless.

Don't go beating around the bush TB. Come straight out with it and say what you really feel....

Why shouldnt they be allowed on road at busy times, a survey was done on the M5 south bound near the weston super mare area, it was said that caravans were causing the delays on peak holiday periods, this was carried out for over 2 months, caravans were restricted to the inside lane only, this was done and the results were that even more jams were caused as all caravans were in the inside lane along with the HGVs, the tail backs were unreal, needless to say the restriction was lifted as caravans could not overtake the HGVs.
Its everyone to there own, I dont relish the thought of sitting in a tin can for hours on end flying over some ocean with screaming youngsters.

There's me, trying to test the cooling capacity of my poorly tractor this bank holiday, trouble is, every burger van owner (aka caravan) wanted to be around truckfest and silverstone, purely to hinder me  

 

Got to go to Cornwall in less than 2 weeks. Gonna be stuck behind the swaying stupid things all the flippin way. Can't see round them as they are too flippin wide, too long to overtake safely except in rare locations, and stuck at 30mph  .  Oh joy.

I should add, I am taking proper camping stuff, ie a tent. It all goes in boot, is set up as quick, and is probably bigger.  And best of all, I won't be holding up traffic. Unless I take the tractor

We have plenting of heat


We we used to go camping when we were little, we had running water in our trailer tent, hot and cold.  Trouble is, it was always my job to fill up the water drum...

Don't bother with running water now, just a 10l can.

Its only a long weekend, we do it twice a year.

So this weekend is Lille with a few guys from work (including the chap you looks after the Linux server this place runs on when I'm not about ). Next weekend is Cornwall. The following 2 weekends are Cyprus, then its the England v Scotland meet......

On the rare occasion you come across a car doing 50 it would be a pain I admit, but how many times do you come across a LGV overtaking another LGV and it takes miles for them to overtake. That happens hundreds of times a day.
