Another Gas Explosion!
« on: 02 November 2010, 08:04:52 »

Just on the news... A large gas(?) explosion in Salford this morning :o

There are fears that people are trapped and possible fatalities :'( :'(

My thoughts to anyone who has a loved one in the area and best of luck to the rescue teams/emergency services in this very busy time

Lol, Corgi nor Gas Safe helped that!

Neither of them bring quality to the game, only a very poor level of regulation with very few (read none for many) random spot checks.

Those who were incompitent ignored the regs and did it anyway and those who were registered still made (and still do make) cockups.

Hence why I do my own and get it final checked for sign off by a cooperative registered person.

IIRC: CORGI was introduced following a long series of major (fatal) gas explosions in the late `60`s. (notably the collapse of Ronan Point tower-block).....however, in common with so-many thing 'official' the original gas-safety remit became lost and diluted.
Like you, Mark; I`ve installed gas appliances (NG & LPG) and had them signed-off by a friendly R & Q :y

Umm. I wonder if those who had just escaped the rubble would agree with that advice. ::)

You could be very right Mark, as the latest news is that these houses were undergoing professional refurburbishment of their kitchens, with a new cooker, and associated gas work, fitted only yesterday in one of the affected houses! ::) ::) ::)

We had the delightful experience of staying in the same hotel that the Housing Association had put some of these poor people up in... What and experience :o

Dreadful night with lots of noise (kids running and parents shouting till at least midnight and started again at about 06:30 >:() but the hotel were good and gave us complimentary dinner as compensation.

Now, I do sympathise with the dreadful loss these people have had but they really were cashing in on it and also being incredibly ungrateful for the generosity and assistance some people were showing. ::)
