After a visit by the local cops I put the feelers out with the local druggies.
I thought i would mention to all the local drug users that i would pay a reward for information leading to the return of my gear ,
Within an hour the door went  with a guy offering to go get my gear back as he knew who had it.
I told him i will pay him £50 if he could help withthe return of my gear

He took me a few streets away with my car  he went into a house and demanded the gear  brought it out and loaded it into my car  at that point i handed him £50 and drove home.
when i got home a checked contents  and NOTHING is missing  so i phoned cops and notified them  and insurance company to cancel the claim im not going to damage my no claims bonus for 2 windows .

dodgy but i got my stuff back

Doug

Turns out the guy who stole it didnt want to give him the gear and had to be "persuaded" quite strongly (saved me a job)

all in all  cost me £50

Great news Doug. ;D ;D ;D ;D Was the persuasion carried out with the help of a baseball bat?
On a serious note what did the local plod have to say about the retrieval of your stuff?

In your shoes I might be tempted to assist the scum in a house move by 'donating' a gallon of inflammable liquid. (when the house & it's neighbours are empty of course, as unfortunately it's not considered PC to cremate bodies before a death certificate is issued! >:() :-X

sounds like a scene from "Point Blank" with Lee Marvin....or if you're younger, the inferior Mel Gibson version  :y
