Poxy cyclists
« on: 09 November 2010, 09:11:06 »

Last night moved my little Corsa which I'm selling, anyway moved the car this was about 7 o'clock so pitch black now and raining, son stops behind the car, I look in the mirror all clear, the bike literally racing down the road, I mean if there was a speed check down there, he would've had a fine. Anyway he had no lights on either and well I open the door and he smashes into it and caves the door in, the door was open for 7 seconds too got all this on CCTV though so I'm safe, but I now need to buy a new door. I know not every cyclist is like this, so I'm not tarring all with the same brush  :y

just 1 reason why cyclists should be taxed and insured to use the rds.

Although I support the idea, if you do this you'll just force cyclists on to the pavements where they are an even bigger menace.

I hope this guy who hit your door doesn't try and pull a fast one on you, hopefully the CCTV will back you up.  And who said CCTV for cyclists is a bad idea?  ::)

On a related note there was a fantastic article in Triathlete's World recently on Safe Cycling techniques which covered point for all road users, not just us lycra maniacs.   :y

They started handing out fines to cyclists without lights in Reading recently - £30 fixed penalty (rescinded if you went back within 7 days with lights fitted).. not a bad idea (since I think cycling at night without lights is insanity!)

Not sure how you'd police taxing and insuring pushbikes. ;D

In any case, insurance or not, it doesn't change the fact that the rider is responsible for the damage, by the sound of it.

Oddly enough, some countries aren't far off that .. Japan, for instance (from what I know of Tokyo at least) - every bicycle has a unique serial number (a VIN plate, essentially) and the owner is registered.. making theft recovery nice and easy (but it's a short hop to taxing & insuring it - I don't know if they do that, I don't think so)

Agreed, I bollocked a Colonel here recently!  Although a measly junior rank myself it was easy once I pointed out that an order given by a Brigadier trumps a colonel anyday  ;D ;D

Sadly true in some areas.  I deliberately make it difficult for cyclists on pavements.  break em if they cant follow the rules and make the rest of us look bad.

As long as you ride assertively with Positive Road Position you'll be fine.  Hug the pavement too much and you'll get clipped by a lorry doing 40 (been there)

Well looking at it in the daylight properly, it bent the door totally, luckily I've managed to bend it back into shape (shutting my fingers in the door in the process, that's painful), anyway I don't think I'll be getting the dent out, so it looks like a new door is going to be needed  >:(
