Didn't we bring in some laws about incitement to (racial, religious, etc.) hatred somewhere along the line? I'm sure they were intended to be interpreted universally... weren't they?

I don't feel the need to add anything further as this identifies, precisely, just where the problem rests. :y :y

Don't want to comment too much on this thread (because it has angered me intensely) but...

These same people who are going to demonstrate are happy t live in this country with a democratic government, benefits (not all of them I know!) etc...

If you don't like it, go back to your roots and live that way of life. Then you'll be grateful that the boys of the British Armed Forces are trying to improve things for you!

I'll just add that although I don't necessarily agree with some of the wars we are fighting I don't think the soldiers should be withdrawn now... They must finish the job otherwise the people will be worse off than when it all started.

Right... Think I'd better leave it at that... I apologise if I have managed to insult anyone, it wasn't my intention! Just my feelings.

And I fear that they may well be violence if this is let to happen.

It's all about respect... I respect the views of the people demonstrating but they should also respect ours. It's not just about fallen servicemen, it's about fallen civilians too, of all races, colours and creeds.

Sorry Rich, that's tarring them all with the same brush. Let's be honest here, this is a small minority of Muslims living in Britain. I have many Muslim friends who will be just as disgusted and outraged by this demonstration as I am :y

And while we allow them their right to protest against rememberance day, Norfolk fire service has just cancelled its long standing service because they are not comfortable holding a religious service any longer. They claim that "some" people have complained about it.
This country makes me despair at times. >:( >:(

It's deliberately provocative and gives this minority what they want - publicity.  The danger is that ignoring them runs the real risk of encouraging them to pursue ever more outrageous stunts, banning them only pushes their movement undergound and gives them credibility to others, and recognising them makes others feel isolated, ignored or disowned - which in turn means groups like the EDL or BNP gather more support.   >:(

Personally I'm horrified with the behaviour of whoever gave the go-ahead for this demonstration to take place on a national day of rememberance for those who fought to protect our values and freedoms.  Whether it was done to demonstrate tolerance or some backhanded way to incite a backlash against a religious group, the person or people responsible for allowing this should be sacked immediately and replaced with others who have got some common sense and a spine.
