Used to suffer severe Agoraphobia.  For me it lasted almost 2 years.  I was confined to the inside of my house, couldn't answer the phone, couldn't answer the door.  On very good days, I'd be able to sit in the back garden for a short period of time.

If you need any more insight/help/advice give me a shout via PM.

I know of people who have suffered. Essentially, it is caused by nervous stress, so it is not a physical condition, but rather a psychological condition brought on by excessive tension and fear. It is treatable, though. :y

Feel free to PM me if you want further information.  :y

Whilst I can see what you are trying to explain, you are wrong.

Agoraphobia, just like any irrational fear can be brought on by anything from Alcohol or Drug miss-use to a traumatic experience not connected to the Phobia.

I've been actively helping sufferers of Panic, Anxiety and Phobia's since I developed and conquered Agora, I have advised so called 'specialists' on how to assist sufferers and the website I contribute to has NHS accreditation.

MantaGTE, if you or someone you know is beginning to fel the effects of Agora, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I'll give you my personal telephone number and put you in contact with a genuine online support group who can then (if required) direct you to a local source of inspiration.

I'm fortunate not to suffer from such conditions but have always wondered, if i suddenly did i could no longer go to work so would not be able to keep up the mortgage payments on the house i'd be unable to leave due to said condition. We hear of such cases & i sympathize but i don't think i could afford to be agoraphobic, i'd be homeless as well?

You are quite correct.  If Agoraphobia isn't diagnosed and treated early and in the proper manner (which varies from one person to the next (unlike some methods you pay for, i.e. Claire Weekes)) then it can really disrupt life to the point of losing a home and losing your family.  I've been there.

I haven't been as unfortunate as some who have taken their own lives because of an Anxiety/Phobic disorder.
