yep aaron - they now use the Black Rock Desert flats, although changing from wheel driven vehicles to thrust driven "trolleys" is a bigger cheat in my opinion

Which is why it is a whole different catageory...

But staying upright helps, don't fancy that much, "looks" like it'll blow over! Hit a dip or uneven patch of salt lake....

Seriously though, I'm guessing the gyroscopic effect of four 75Kg wheels doing 12,000 rpm is pretty big.

I think in some states in the US you can get away with pretty much anything on the roads (IIRC Texas is quite good for that - the total opposite of California)
